Feedback: The "Foot vs. Mounted" gap is a Retention Killer

Hello Star Vault team,

Imagine a scenario where MO2 is fully polished and marketing brings in thousands of new players. Shortly after, the population drops drastically. Why? Because of the rigid divide between **Foot** and **Mounted** builds.

**The Problem:**
To enjoy game content (Dungeons, POIs), a player needs a **Foot build**. However, to reach that content, they must travel through the world.
Currently, a Foot player is defenseless against **Mounted** players in the open field. They are slower, cannot escape, and cannot fight back. It is not a fight; it is an execution.
* If I go Foot build: I die to mounted griefers on the way.
* If I go Mounted build: I survive the trip, but I can't clear the dungeon.

**The Solution:**
**Please make ALL Mounted Skills Secondary.**

Allow players to be viable both on horseback and on foot. Let the combat result be decided by **player skill**, not by an arbitrary build limitation. This single change would drastically reduce toxic griefing and save the new player experience.

This is certainly a suggestion worthy of mo2. I actually expect them to implement this.

Agreed, the divide is crazy. I mean hell you can just make controlled riding secondary/make 0 mounted combat archery and magery still do 75% dmg and we are good. But current state is just goofy.

EQ is already a huge counter for mounted.

They need to make it so that mounted has more proper counters, that mounted counters mounted harder, and they need to probably tune down MA a bit against foot.

Lancer should destroy foot. You should prob not be able to spec MA / MM and MC and be able to turn your mount / hold a good mount.

Your idea doesn't do anything but make it so you lose more weapon types when you get mounted griefed haha.

Longbow used to obliterate mounts. The balance is a bit off on that now. Horses are maybe ok, but the other mounts tank bows well. There need to be more dismounts (not some shit you can cast on a FF and chase someone around on a naked horse tho.) There needs to be more risk involved in mounted. Right now, you can assess risk and decide. That's why people accept EQ as a viable solution because it does allow people to get the jump on mounted, but people spec into something and get invalidated with 100 ecu to a full foot fighter. That's not OK.

The solution is to make more ways for people to avoid getting mounted griefed, not to make everyone mounted. I like playing mounted because I move around, but I have obvious limitations because I do that. That shit has changed a bit with mastery / trinks / etc.

If you are a sword fighter with no bow, you should not just be food for mounted. There has to be a way to balance this. As with all things in this broken ass game please think about them and balance them right opposed to just slapping on some bandaid like all mounted secondary. Even riding being a secondary and allowing you to go full speed has kinda fucked shit up (cuz people can chase you down on naked horses and EQ you if you are on a fully geared mount.)

I don't think there is much of an issue. I think the game suffers from lack of longterm content besides just random large scale and small scale pvp. I think most modern gamers are looking for an instant dopamine rush, I think something like hellgates similar to albion would draw alot of players. Mo1 had mortal royal I think the baseline content is there.

The only thing that extrememly OP is mounted archery at this point.
Mounted magery has to go straight to cast spells which keeps it from being OP, and MC has to be on top of you which can be avoided pretty easily if you are mounted and see them coming.

MAs however are uncounterable kings of mounted combat by a large margin, especially with all the masteries specifically for it, and pierce rings. They have top mobility, range, damage, sustain, healing, even pets if they want AND almost no downsides except maybe being wheelchair. Its just ridiculous how OP MAs are. Only thing that truly counters a full MA build is one other MA build, and thats just not right.
Sure, a heavily armored footie with a long bow can survive and scare off an MA, but its not a counter. MA can easily reset the fight as long as he wants.

Nerf MAs damage and this whole foot vs mounted isnt as big a deal anymore.

Did the abilities change this a lot, because it wasn't that bad before?

No, fuck this post. Another FF only main degenerate that thinks the game should revolve around them. How are you dying to a mounted player on foot. It's literally impossible. They have MC? Block. They have arrows? Wear armor, use terrain and lesser heal/bandage/potion. They have MM? Go into any building. Let me guess OP, you got killed by a group of mounted players while you were alone on your free horse and you're mad.
