What's the trick to leveling up pets now? Attacking Guards at Fabernum No longer work to level up.

Title Pretty Much says it all. There has to be a new trick to level pets up, anyone have the secret sauce on this?

I just have them out with me wherever I go, somehow they level up as I play.
