Not for new players that don't know nothing about the game man, people wanna try out stuff, having this 1 char limit might ruin some of their experience and make them regret certain choices, especially when lvling would be 100 times slower.

Edit: I mean, if the players will have an option to reset their char - try a different build - have a chance to revert to what it used to be, I'm down with 1 char per account, and also having this IP limit per account so other people wont get any advantage over others.
I never played MO1 and have only played for two weeks.

Read a bit.

Also Haven exist so try your stuff there?

Yeah but you are one of many man, I'm talking over wider prespective, imagine new players coming in to try out the game on launch, they literally know nothing about the game and skills are 100 times slower to lvl, so who knows, maybe by the time they max out their character they figure out it's not the best setup they intended it to be and all that, what would they be doing then?

I don't think IDs would be too much to ask for.
I do. I have seen enough to know better.
China and Korea have an ID system for gaming accounts.
I don't care how the CPC does things. We're not really supposed to... REALLY NOT SUPPOSED TO... bring in Real World politics to this forum, but you just did.
considering people have already given a lot of information to SV to be able to donate and obtain access to the game
... And how's that still working out for some folks? I hear it's not going so well, even years later. Star Vault has less to do with personal information and Steam has more, these days, so your statement is disingenuous at best. You know better, and so do I...
<Rickroll Dance>

If SV was going to ask for & collect any ADDITIONAL kind of substantive information for accessing the game, surely it would be parental consent for people under 18 to play the game, but we digress.
I don't think IDs would be too much to ask for. Usage of fake IDs is a non-issue, the amount of effort it would take to obtain then use a fake ID AND be under the risk of getting fined/thrown into prison for using a fake would deter most people from doing so.
I don't care how they do it in Beijing, Seoul, Malmö, or New York, but California Civil Code Section 1747.08 (Law section.) permits a merchant to request that a customer show a driver’s license as identification in connection with a credit card transaction, but prohibits recording any information from that driver’s license, whether by photocopying or otherwise.

I'm not showing Star Vault my state ID or national passport. NOR my Social Security number. I'm not getting a JOB at Star Vault.

My primitive frontier state with its 5th-largest-in-the-world economy also does not prohibit the use of pseudonyms, as long as there is no intent to defraud.

Firstly, mentioning how gaming works in other countries does not equate politics. I'm just saying that is how it is done in some countries, where you basically need an ID to game.

Furthermore, the world doesn't revolve around the US, let alone the single state of California. If you don't wish to give SV your ID, then don't play the game. The rest of us will be however.

Yeah BDO has forced people to show them their IDs. If they didnt they would ban the player.
You are using a creditcard/payment processor to play for this game. At anytime the seller can request identification to make sure you are the person who should be using that card/paymentprocessor.

BDO is on steam and still requires proof of who you are if they choose. They usually make you show them your ID before they ban you or want to send cease and dissist letters.

A padded room.
Henrik already said he has taken measures to prevent stuff like this from happening again, including but not limited to having new cybersecurity folks and working with the FBI

I am no way condemning them for what happened in the past. It is what it is.

I am only saying it was damaging to their credibility trying handle such things on their own. Again it is what it is.

They would be foolish to not consider such things.

The fact that they are moving towards having steam handle these types of things shows that they most likely feel the same.

So I personally do not see SV attempting to handle user information any more than they have to.

SV already had issues with information in the past. So many are still not comfortable with providing them with info again.

Their best bet is leaving the accounts and billing up to steam.

This way they can distance themselves from those types of things and concentrate on making the game itself instead.
They will have the option to sub over the website again, And I highly suggest doing that. Because steam takes 30%

And star vault can really use the 30% of the subs for development. So i personally will only sub over thier website.

Only 1 char per account please but imo they really should do reroll token which you can buy from their website. With token you can change race, age and height. You really shouldnt be able to change name ever.

Token should be something like 15 or 20dol. That would be reasonable price and then people wouldnt do it too often. Doing mmo's is not cheap and doing niche mmo money will always be a problem. We know Henrik has good vision about game so why not give ways to give him some more €$£ to make it even better.

You, @Chef , continue to state things as foregone conclusions that are merely (bad) suggestions.

Oh, but I didn't. Star Vault didn't ask for any form of official ID from me; just a payment method. Neither did I supply ssome of the other information they 'asked' for. Steam won't be any different. They've got an email address, and when I connect(ed) they got an IP address, and send a two-factor authenticaion to the email--and that's it.

So...not 'the rest of us', but just you... YOU go ahead and give them your fingerprings and a DNA sample if you want.

By the way, the way gaming is done, in CCP China? THere can be no nudity or skeletons. I very much doubt that games like the Mortal games are going to make a special client just for such a market. :giggle:

If they make it so you get a second char if you sub for $20 instead of $15, it will get a lot of people who consider $30 too much to cross that line.

I have a suggestion, an example for @Henrik Nyström to borrow from RIFT, that will address the issues outlined below.
(For those who just can't accept and see dire flaws-- some very real-- in the way it's been planned):
  • Two souls.
    • The Perfect Deva.
One character,
one name,
one reputation,
maybe even one bloodline choice
per ONE account;

spend as much of your personal time as you wish building 'two souls'.

You log in from ONE location, without using log-in to move across the map. You must re-log to switch. You pay ONE sub, or several, but you get ONE psersona with two sets of equipped gear (just what you can wear, and carry-- it's not much) and ONE bank per location, to be shared by both.

Has my support, nice idea

Edit: Thinking about it maybe it'd be best to have the profession skills similar for both characters and making each soul be able to change only it's active skills so like u can be MA and MC but u cant be MA that crafts bows and horse armor while at the same time be MC who can craft armors and weapons etc, it'd be too abused that way.

Again, spend 10 minutes looking up builds. Just like I did as a new player.

Wrong, none of us are going to be giving anyone a fucking ID to play a game. You can keep that shit in Beijing with your social karma systems and shit.

Also the Swedes are really keen on giving up freedoms and privacy so this is a wasted argument anyway.
You, @Chef , continue to state things as foregone conclusions that are merely (bad) suggestions.

Exactly, MO2 most certainly will not be played in China because you know the government tells you what you can and cannot play.

The perfect way to describe current MO2, is its a sandbox but you can only haev 1 cup of sand at a time. If you want different sand trade in your cup. Or pay twice as much monthly to get 2 cups at a time.

Ton of build options, crafting, combat styles, etc. But you can only be good at 1 or maybe 2 on a character. But you have to buy the game and pay monthly, just to be heavily limited in what you can do.

I get the concept of 2 char slots to try and reduce griefing, increase punishment, ect. But it doesnt work. Tons of people dual subbed in MO1. All these people can just dual sub in MO2. And then kill people outside town, and trade gear to their blue alt. Die, res right outside at red priest, get handed gear by their blue. The 1 char slot is even more abusable than MO1 was. Because at least everyone had some alts.

Considering opening up to the Chinese gaming market would increase revenue by the millions, I would say it is not completely out of the question.

No; no, you would not. Do you know what 'wu mao' means? Just curious.
Most games nowadays are made, or have versions that allow for Chinese gamers. With a population of over one billion and most of their youth are gamers, it's very hard to find a good reason NOT to cater to the Chinese.

Also, five cents is one of the literal translations in Chinese not accounting for all the other different accented ways to interpret that.

The way you described it sounds pretty disgusting man, I really hope it wouldn't end up that way.

I think a lot of games do NOT have versions that suit PRChina state censors.

It was tough on PUBG. Korean-developed PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was not officially released in China because it was deemed too violent, so n 2017, Tencent partnered with the devs, promising to ensure that the game accorded “with socialist core values, Chinese traditional culture and moral rules”. That more (rather than less) required creating a completely new game. Peacekeeper Elite, with no blood and no death – when a player was eliminated, they simply kneeled and waved goodbye before vanishing.

That's the kind of thing Star Vault would be up against. And the result wouldn't be a game that could be played on that Single Server with the rest of us.

China tolerates a grey market in which players can buy foreign games that haven’t been approved for domestic consumption by using Steam, but even that is changing. Fairly recently, an “official” Chinese version of Steam was launched, with just a few dozen games. If China were to restrict access to the global version, it would drive many more developers into the censorship process, or else risk losing millions in sales.

In China, to create a video game account in Tentcent it IS required to show a government identification to verify the real name and age of the users, among other information. Sounds good, if you're into that. So does minors affected by the new rules not being able to simply create another account, pretending to be adults, to bypass the restrictions.

Which are, for everyone under 18:
  • Only between 8 pm and 9 pm,
  • on Fridays, Saturadays, and Sundays--
  • a total of three hours a week,
  • unless theré's a public holiday, on which they can add an extra hour to the allotted single hour.

But, that only keeps the young'ns out of the game, which some would think was a good thing. Unless...
Well, according to the Chinese People's Daily, as soon as those restrictions went into effect, more than twenty commercial platforms began to rent adult-owned video game accounts for prices starting at $ 5 for two hours. That's illegal, of course, but it goes on anyway. For now.

But what can't you put in your video game, if it's localised for China?

  • No bones. No Necro pets,

Cli7-o9XEAACgwa.jpg

no skulls lying about, no depictions of skulls or bones on anything. No walkers. No inaminate skeletons, either.
  • No video game can show characters emerging from the ground, as if rising from the dead.

Some games have gotten by with replacing blood splatter with pink splatter, but... generally...
  • No gore. No realistic looking blood. No
  • No nudity.
    • (And with those two prohibitions you lose the way that avatars resurrect in front of a Priest.)

Probably, no Priests, either; media that “promotes cults and feudal superstitions”. is barred. (Not just in games.)
  • No Church of Soldeus.
  • No Hodor.
  • No Zealots (..."and there was much rejoicing").

No politically contentious messages, which might easily apply to Factions like the Exuul.

No gambling. Heh, "no dice", I guess.

NO DRUGS. Goodbye, Nahuat, Salvia, that stuff that those guys in Tindrem with the "tiny addictions" used to crave that you could smuggle in, and some Mushrooms.

No depictions of organised crime, which makes the entire existence of the Guttershipes (for instance) in the same game as the upright Chinese gamer impossible-- and also that NPC guy that you sold the Somniferum to.
  • And Bribery and 'Connections' and Pilfering and Lock Picking. /wave

  • No depictions that “endanger social morality"; for instance, a work was once banned for dpeicing interracial sex. No sexual themes at all, really.
    • Bye, origins of the Thursar.

No endarngeing national cultural traditions; for instance, the censors streas the importance of not mixing styles of dress from across Asia, which can be confusing, offensive or simply ridiculous to a Chinese audience. They might flip over the whole Khurite culture and the architecture of Morin Khur. given their inspiration-- hard to say.

Game makers have been advised that the solid citizens of the People's Republic of China don’t really love grotesque monsters, goblins and ogres (like the Trolls); they like the pretty, young, more anime style.
  • Demons may be right out.

Because the official guidelines are so vague, foreign developers tend to abide by a fuzzy, speculative and ever-changing set of unwritten “rules”, many of which are gleaned from trial and error.
  • Time travel, for example, is considered best avoided. WTF?

Games that fail three times to pass the byzantine review process – which includes submitting videos, screenshots and often tens of thousands of words explaining what the game is – may be permanently blocked.

Now, I'm sure @Henrik Nyström would be fine with Star Vault trying to make Mortal Online 2 saleable to Chinese gamers as customers
