Logging out of game issue with Steam

Hi everyone, I wasn't sure where to the post this.
I have been joining the stress test spending several hours logging in but I noticed a problem today between the game and the steam client. After giving up logging in and exiting, the game continues to show as running in the steam client and I am unable to restart unless I close steam down and start again.

Is the game client still running in the background? You can check by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL to open task manager to see if the .exe is still running if it is just end the task, should fix the issue.

Yes checked that and no it wasn't showing in task manager. Am left with a non-working stop button in steam and no way to get it to finish stopping. When I Exit steam it tells me the game is still running and I have to select exit now. Is a tad strange.
