It would make sense if Zoology helped you learn more about fish, catch them more often, or somehow increase size of fish caught. Maybe when you hook that type of fish their strength is reduced via your Zoology for them? It Just needs some sort of bonus that you can invest in as a fisher to be more specialized. I really don't feel like a "master fisherman" when I put 100 points in Fishing, I feel like someone who can cast a bit further than others. OOOOH so cool... Except that does nothing but increase the time to reel in fish.
The current state of fishing is pretty bad, they did what they promised, to beat it to death with nerfs and fix it later. I hope that some sort of zoology bonus is considered when that time comes.
