The Subject: Trinkets


This series of feedback posts are collectively meant to be easily digestible, 5 steps or less processes to fix the respective system of Mortal Online 2 being critiqued.

t;dr No complex powerpoint or video needed, ez <= 5 step plans to fix MO 2.

The Steps


  1. Remove all Damage and Defense %-modifiers. Trinkets should be used for rounding out builds, not giving direct combat advantages and breaking game balance.
  2. Remove Bow Damage bonus/Draw Speed penalty from Orbs. Orbs were never meant to directly impact normal combat damage.
  3. Allow both re-rolls of the current Trinket stats without replacing them (new) and re-rolls of all stats.

I’d have said make them cheaper, but yes, when you rack up massive bonuses, by the time you die, it’s no longer a matter of getting headshot.

Star Vault have demonstrated that they did not prepare for or expect the balance fallout from randomly introducing damage and defense multipliers into the game, and indeed their approach to date would be unwieldy to even someone well-experienced in such things.

This is to say nothing of how discouraging it is to new players who typically quit after finding out they have a 6-month gold-and-experience grind ahead of them for trinkets & mastery respectively to reach the mechanical baseline even while playing several hours a day.
