Hey guys, I really can't decide wether building Death knight (human, hybrid) or a heavy footie with spear and shield (oghmir) ? Both are cool, but the world around is dangerous. Could anyone give me some advice about these two, since ppl on YouTube say different things always.

Ohgmir is the easier of the 2 builds to play. The survivability of a tower shield Ohgmir in heavy armour with pots, pipe, hp food is ridiculous. Its a straight tank build with huge sustain potential if played correctly. There is a reason everyone keeps screaming for Ohgmir nerfs. Downside is, you are slow. You arent running from anyone, and chasing them wont be fun. You stand and fight, and outlast your opponent.

Death knight sounds cool but is much harder to play well. You are way less tanky and have to rely way more on great melee skills. Necro spells are handy but require skill and timing to pull off. Small mana pool allows for only a couple of spells, so if you mess up you’ll be in a tight spot. Less hp, less damage bonus, less armour mitigation, less sustainable self healing but a more diverse playstyle. You also get to fit a few more skills into your build which can be nice.

Id always recommend just trying out different weapons to see which one you like best. I for example like axes with a shield, lots of people like a mace, some love their spears. In terms of raw strength it depends more on your trinket roll than on your weapon, at least thats my experience. (edit for grammar)

the meta tower shield is either 1h axes (slash/blunt damage) or 1h maces(blunt damage). The reason is that chip damage is higher than swords and spears. Also since you are often fighting other heavy armoured opponents, the higher blunt damage of axes/maces is more effective against heavy armour (heavy armour has high slash defence but lower blunt defence). This is your highest damage and highest survivability build for Oghmirs with a shield.

Swords (slash damage) are good all around weapons, but they really shine as 2 handers, without a shield. If you want more damage than the shield/1 hander setup, then 2 handed swords are ideal. This does require a higher melee skill however, because you dont have the shield for extra protection and forcing equipment hits.

Spears (pierce damage) are more for group fights. The problem with spears is that they are very predictable. The most damage comes from thrusting attack, which is just 1 direction. Easy to block. In larger battles, where there is a lot of focus firing and less blocking, then spears shine. In 1vs1 against a skilled opponent they are probably the worst weapon.

In the end pick whatever you like the most, just be aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
