Journal Rebuild

A new statistics and titles backend has been built. We have in the past used Steam/EOS to save statistics like journal discoveries, title progress etc. But keeping this code up to date and working especially with the way EOS changes very often has been troublesome.

So we built our own system, this system is the same for both EOS and Steam fixing the massive amount of issues EOS users face.

It also moves all achievement and title unlocking onto our servers making it easier for us to generate leaderboards regardless of if the user is playing on steam or eos.

We now also have tools to unlock achievements/titles or remove titles and statistics from players who have received titles in unfair ways in the past.

  • The journal now has a completely new visual layout.
  • Titles are now viewed and selected in the Journal UI.
    • The titles tab has been removed from the character sheet. You will need to re-choose your title because of this change.
  • Titles are now categorised into the following groups:
    • Adventurer
    • Explorer
    • Artisan
    • Combatant
  • Earning Titles within the new Title groups now contributes toward earning “Milestone” Titles, which represent your progress toward earning all of the Titles of each group.
  • There are now new Titles for unlocking all Discoveries within a certain group.
  • Each Discovery group and Title group now displays a progress bar at the top of the UI showing you how close you are to the next Milestone Title unlock.
  • There is now a new Discovery group for Foraging.
  • There is now a new Discovery group for Fishing.
    • Fishing Discoveries can only be unlocked by catching a Fish yourself.
  • There is a new Tab in the Journal for the “Chronicle”, which displays your Account’s history of actions and all tracked stats such as Glory Gained, Bandits Killed, Weapons Crafted, Silver Aegis Earned and many more. Note that these stats are Account-wide and are not character specific.
  • The Notes section has been updated with a new visual layout as well.
    • The Journal notes have been completely rebuilt and removed from being saved in a file on your computer. This solves the issue with EOS users not being able to save their notes at all.
    • The game will attempt to convert your old notes to the new system the first time you login.
  • Your old Steam and EOS statistics will be converted and moved over to this new system the first time you login.
  • Added better support for pictures in the discoveries panel. One of the particularly nice elements of this new Journal is that we are finally able to show the full size icon images, and so you will now be able to see and appreciate all the different items you have come to know in increased detail.
  • The Discoveries panel now shows everything you have discovered and everything you have not found yet as “?”.
  • Titles per group now sort so that unlocked titles are at the top.
  • Material and item discoveries now trigger the first time you pick up the material rather than the first time you look at it.
  • Killing something now supports adding to more than one statistic.
  • Discoveries can now unlock titles.
  • 27 new titles and achievements have been added
  • The following statistics have been added:
    • Players Banished
    • Spirits caught
    • Deaths
    • Creatures dominated
    • Creatures tamed
    • Duels won
    • Duels lost
    • Ranked duels finished
    • Unranked duels finished
    • Ranked duels won
    • Ranked duels lost
    • Unranked duels won
    • Unranked duels lost
    • Food eaten
    • Fishes caught
    • Standing gained for each nation
    • Standing lost for each nation
    • Characters created
    • Character rerolls used
    • Potion units drunk

Party System

A new party system has been added to the game! Team up with friends and strangers alike to take on the world together; share Glory and coordinate with a dedicated party text chat channel.

The Party system allows players to form a Party with each other to further aid with communication and organization when grouping up to experience content together. Players in a Party are essentially in a mini-guild, which is more temporary in nature.

The expected use case for the Party system is primarily players forming on-the-spot groups in towns before embarking on a trip to complete a task or dungeon together. The ability to communicate easily with Party members should allow those using the system to more easily form new connections, make new friends and thereby create lasting ties to the game world.

Due to the low commitment and high quality of life nature of the Party system, it is expected to enable normally-solo players to be more willing and able to experience group content with strangers.

Party Rules

  • Parties are temporary; they exist only while the server is online.
  • Parties exist within a continent. A player automatically leaves their party when they travel to another continent, e.g. from Haven to Myrland.
  • A player automatically leaves their party when their character leaves the world, whether by logging out normally or after a timeout following an unexpected disconnect.
  • Party membership has no effect on flagging rules (murderer, fledgling, etc.).
  • Party members are considered Friendly (same as guild members) for applicable clade gifts and buffs (e.g. Active Clade Gift Buffs which benefit friendly players around you).
  • Glory is shared among all living party members within a maximum radius of the killed target.

Forming a Party

  • Parties can have a maximum of 5 members, including the leader.
  • Parties are formed automatically when a player accepts a pending invite from another player who is not currently in a party.
  • A player can send and receive multiple simultaneous invites.
  • Once a party is established, only the party leader may send new invites.
  • Accepting any invite will automatically decline all other pending invites.
  • Pending invites are listed in the Social Window (Party Tab).
  • Invites can be accepted or declined using the ✓ (checkmark) or ✗ (X) buttons in the Social Window.
  • Invites are logged in the party chat channel.
  • Invites expire after 30 seconds.

Invites can be sent in several ways:

  • Chat commands: /invite name or /partyinvite name
  • Chat: Click a player’s name → context menu → Invite to Party
  • Social Window (Friend List): Click a player’s name → context menu → Invite to Party
  • Social Window (Party tab): Use the invite bar → type a name (case-insensitive) and confirm
  • Radial Menu (default E): Invite to Party (located next to Invite to Guild)

Party Member Status

  • Social Window displays each member’s status:
    • Party Leader: Crown icon (dimmed when offline).
    • Members: Green dot (dimmed when offline).
  • The new Party Frame displays health and active buffs for all party members.

Party Leader Actions

The party leader has access to the following actions via the Social Window:

  • Promote to Leader: Transfer leadership to another member.
  • Kick Member: Remove a member from the party.
  • Disband: Dissolve the entire party.

Leaving a Party

  • If the leader leaves, leadership is automatically transferred to another member.
  • If any member leaves and only the leader remains, the party is automatically disbanded.

Party Chat

  • Added a new Party chat channel. Text messages have unlimited distance within the same continent.
  • Added new chat commands /p and /party to switch channels.
  • Party messages appear in both the General tab and the new Party tab by default. Party messages can be enabled elsewhere using the chat tab filter list.
  • The color for party chat messages can be changed in game settings.
  • Party-specific additions related to status frames are listed under Status Bar Rebuild.

Status Bar Rebuild

  • All status bars have been rebuilt from the ground up; for example the player’s health, mana and stamina, pet health etc.
  • Changed the default status bar settings so that the player and target bars are in the middle of the screen.
  • Target status bars now only show for targets that can take damage.
  • Remade all the progress bar art using materials (shaders), this means we can scale these bar’s size non uniform and the graphics will not become blurry as they did before.
  • All status bars are now in groups: the player status, target status, pets status and party status. Each group is moved as a separate entity and have their own separate settings.
  • Added new animations for when a status bar value goes down and a new flare when the status bar goes up. For example by losing or gaining health.
  • The size of buffs on a status bar now scales much better with how large the status bar is, instead of scaling the entire buff icon it now allows more or less buff icons to fill the area. For example wider status bars can have more buffs in one row.
  • Buffs with one centered status will now only create a new line of buffs if the amount is larger than can fit the width of the status bar.
  • Revamped the look of the status bars to make them take up as little space as possible in the UI.
  • All status bar groups can now be left aligned, right aligned or center aligned.
  • Added some quick fade in and fade out animations to make the additions of extra bars and new status bars less jarring.
  • Pet bars now show stamina only if the pet is mountable.
  • You can now change the look of every status bar group by right clicking the bar and choosing settings. The settings include width, height and if the bar should show any text version on top of the bars.
  • You can lock each status bar from being dragged by right clicking it and choosing “Lock Drag”.
  • The buff counter animation on buff icons has been changed from a ring to an effect similar to cooldown counters but white.
  • Buffs now have a quick add and remove animation to make it easier to spot them changing.
  • When dead, only Kau is now shown as a status bar. Health, mana, and stamina bars are hidden.
  • Pet icons now scale much better with the size of the bars.
  • Clicking the pet portrait on a pet’s status bar now opens the pet UI with that pet’s tab selected.
  • Improved the look of the tab buttons in the pet UI. These buttons now scale better by clipping if the name is too long.
  • Status bars now pulse when under 20%. You can change the threshold in the settings for the status bar group, setting it to 0 will turn off pulsing.
  • Status bars can now set individual height, pulse % and if they should show numbers or not, you can access these settings by clicking advanced in the settings for the group. For example making your Health bar thicker than your Stamina and Mana bars.
  • Status bar settings are now saved in a ini file instead of the savegame this makes it easier for steam/eos to cloud save.
  • Status bars connected to entities that are out of range (party members or pets) will now show as transparent.

Lottery System Update

These changes aim to create a more stable and engaging lottery experience.

  • Reduced tribe Rat Daily Task requirement from 25 to 20.
  • Reduced Veteran Bandit Daily Task requirement from 10 to 8.

Bugs

  • Fixed an issue where logging in with trinkets that have attribute bonuses would not update affected skills properly.
  • Fixed carcass lootbags not looking correct.
  • Fixed issue where players at war would lose standing for killing enemy guild pets.

Relics

  • Fixed relic beams remaining in the world when pickable relics expired.
  • Fixed an issue causing pickable reliquary objects on the ground to duplicate after a server restart, depending on their previously saved state and how players had interacted with them.
  • Fixed reliquary relics disappearing or changing to a different type when picked up. This affected relics that had been restored after a server restart.

Reconnect Change

  • Reconnecting after an unexpected disconnect, e.g. after the game crashes, will now resume control of your existing character instead of respawning it. This preserves your active game state, such as buffs, and improves data integrity.
  • A player that reconnects to the game will no longer play the login sound, animation or particle effect.
  • Known issues on reconnection: Some buff status icons like the Resting skill may incorrectly display a timer value. Some related animations, like sitting down, might not show.

AI

  • Added 5 new types of dynamically spawned event AI.
  • Some inhabitants of the Fabernum Tower dungeon on Myrland have changed.
  • Outlaws will now leash after reaching 120m from where they were engaged.
  • Ritual summoned pets now start at level 100 instead of level 50.

Changes

  • Adjusted the destruction stages on Keep towers so that they must be much lower health before a hole opens up that allows people to walk through.
  • The reset timer for daily tasks did not get saved during server restart, causing players who had a cooldown on daily tasks to always have to wait 24 hours after server restart in order for the server to remove the daily task cooldowns. Note that every players’ cooldown gets reset at the same time.

Known Issues

  • Some Journal discoveries are not currently unlockable.

Feedback Survey

As always, we will be hosting a Google Forms feedback survey soon where you can let us know about your experiences on the PTR.

We greatly appreciate everyone who takes the time to fill these out. A link to the feedback survey form will be posted closer to the end of the PTR.
