Is the Fat Mage dead?

I've been playing the Fat/Tank/Plate Mage since Beta, that is my main and I haven't really played melee. I stopped playing just before the Combat Ability patch come out. Reason: The club combat abilities that outright cancel my build. That and coupled with some other reasons.

I admit that recently the Tank Mage became too tanky. There were situations that made it almost unkillable. I came back to see that the club abilities auto interrupt spell casting. This seems like a killing blow to a mage. In a PvP situation losing 1 or 2 spell castings means the difference between life and death.

So my question is: What is the actual meta like right now for a Fat/Tank/Plate Mage?

If you carry very heavy armor on your back, against walls, with good placement and other people, no, that can be done, but yes, you can no longer carry armor, because of mana regeneration!

As a fat mage, you pretty much have to actively parry incoming swings. turtling and healing yourself isn't very reliable nowadays with people spamming abilities all day long.
If you let them get within melee range you heave to either out dps them or parry hard.

Alvarins being OP and working very well with magic and range in general made SV nerf magic to a point where non Alvarin mages are genuinely trolling. But so are footies. Outside zvz which is rare in comparison to solo and small scale everyone is an Alvarin and they do every general thing best.

Alvarins are the most OP class I have encountered in any game I played in comparison to other classes. Check my latest post for some anecdotal evidence on their playrate. In short I countef 35ish people I met in a day and 75% were Alvarin. Keep in mind theres 4 races so they are 3x more played than they should be.

SV learned nothing from MO1, as usual, and still hasnt addressed the fact that in a game without slow, stuns or “gap closer” the best way to avoid damage is to simply run away. therefore kiting, once again, becomes the most reliable way to stay alive.
Melee keep getting damage buffs and defence buffs for close quarter combat, which int turns forces mages to stay far away and kite. There is just no other way to survive for a non melee character.

Fat mages are still around but mostly in medium to large scale fights. They need a lot of support from team mates and eventually they run out of mana anyways since mana regeneration sucks with heavy armor.

One other benefit of kiting is that its great for mana regeneration.

Yeah its horrible. They are nerfing magic again this patch and will nerf it again in 2 months probably because Alvarins just abuss it too well there just WILL be complaints and too high pick rate. Nerf the root already speed meta is broken. Add stuns add pulls add slows or just directly nerf Alvarins there is no orher way around it you could remove necro spiritism and elementalism and Sheevra mage would still be OP. Hell with just corrupt and lesser heal it would.
